How do teaching and learning take place in the classroom?
What typically happens in each lesson?
How do I know my child is involved?
These are the questions we as parents might ask concerning our child’s school experience, and we often assume that teaching and learning haven’t changed since we were in school.
That belief is partly correct. Many instructional practices have remained the same since our elementary school experiences. Today, however, teaching is much more informed by the research on “what works.” Technology and new ideas like Differentiated Instruction have also changed classroom instruction.
The instructional practices described below are just a few examples of what takes place in our classroom on a daily basis.
