Grade Six English Language Arts

Classroom Policies (cont)

7. Classroom Expectations

Student behavior is guided by five expectations:

  1. Follow directions the first time they are given.

  2. Raise your hand to ask or answer a question.

  3. Remain seated unless you have permission to be up.

  4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

  5. Treat people and objects the way you would like to be treated.

Homework Policies

When will homework be assigned?

Homework will be assigned every night, Monday-Friday. Assignments should take 20-40 minutes. Students should additionally read for at least 15 minutes each night to keep up with Book Reports and Reading Responses.

What are the student’s homework responsibilities?

Students will record all assignments in their agendas, and contact the class website if the agenda is forgotten (http://schochsite.pbworks.com).

What are the teacher’s responsibilities?

The teacher will provide clear directions when assigning homework, and will give adequate time for it to be recorded in the agenda. The teacher will update the homework on the website regularly (http://schochsite.pbworks.com) and via the Remind101 text messaging service (parents/students can opt in if they so choose). The teacher will check and return homework promptly. The teacher will also be available in the classroom each morning at 8:15 and during the lunch period, should students need time to complete work.

What are the parents’ responsibilities?

Parents will help their child to schedule a time for homework in a quiet, well-equipped location.Parents will contact me if there are problems.

What will happen if students do not do their homework?

Students without homework will be assigned the grade of zero for the work not done. Late homework will not be accepted. Students without homework will be unprepared for the next day’s lessons, group work, and assessments; incomplete homework may therefore result in two failing grades.
